In 2020 Facebook Gaming hosted an internal digital event for their employees that explored not only the future of gaming, but was also sprinkled with the changes that came with a socially distanced life during the pandemic; some content highlighted their employee’s WFH setups. For the summit, we worked to develop an exploration game where users would walk through four different worlds (Gravity, Atlantis, Medieval, and Gingerbread), each with a distinct gaming theme, where they would be fed the Summit content through video.
With art direction from Tim Kim, we worked to develop the UI for this game. We kept it to clean, simple, and intuitive transparent modals with a frosted glass background distortion to highlight the creative wonder of the worlds. The users would click along the road to move and interact with various content points throughout each world. The integrated quest menu allowed users to track their progress in each world, teleport directly to video content spots, and explore the leaderboard and compare their scores to others participating. In order to earn points there were short quizzes in each world, as well as hidden easter eggs for bonus points.
